Two websites are in the works to make it easier for Chatham-Kent residents to know what’s happening in the community.
Several business owners and non-profit organizations have come together to launch Connecting2CK.ca, a web portal that would connect users to municipal information, job postings, and upcoming events.
Spokesperson Robb Nelson says it will be ready to launch in five weeks.
“Our project has been well received,” Nelson says. “It’s been talked about for many years, it just took the private sector to fund the initial start-up and make sure that we bring everyone together. We’re excited, we see a positive response from all three sectors of the community.”
Meantime, the municipality is working on ExperienceCK.ca, which will provide information about jobs, permits, and things to do in the community.
South Kent Councillor Mary Clare Latimer says she’s worried the websites are too similar.
“They should be, maybe, one platform that both work together to maintain, so it’s the best optimal use of resources, optimal use of time and energy on everyone’s part.”
Both groups say they plan to work together to avoid duplication of work.
