Applications for several scholarships are now open to students pursuing education in an environmental field.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) is currently offering two $1,000 and two $500 scholarships to graduating high school students.

“We hope these scholarships will encourage young people to take an active role in the environmental issues that impact our society today and, in the future,” said SCRCA General Manager Ken Phillips in a news release.

To be eligible, students must be pursuing post-secondary studies in fields such as biology, ecology, geography, forestry, and agriculture. Students must also be living within the boundary of the St. Clair region and attend a secondary school in Sarnia, Forest, Petrolia, Wallaceburg, Dresden or Strathroy to apply.

The scholarship funds are made available through donations to trust funds in memory of Archibald W. Campbell, Tony Stranak, and Mary Jo Arnold.

Students can apply for a scholarship by contacting the conservation authority at (519) 245-3710 or visiting the SCRCA website.
