Construction on New School Starting Soon

With a contractor in place, officials with the St Clair Catholic District School Board expect construction to begin on a new north Chatham elementary school in the next few weeks.

Director of Education, Deb Crawford says it’s a relief to see the project moving forward.

“We’re really happy [with the contractor]. They’re ready to start mid-October so we should be seeing some action on that property very very vividly by late October,” says Crawford.

The new school will house English students from St. Vincent, St. Agnes, and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic schools, but Crawford says there’s no real rush to move those students out of their current locations.

“We’ll work with our Transition Committee – a group of parents, community partners, our students, and everyone involved – so that once we get the information of when the school will be ready, we’ll take a look at that and go back to our committee to see how they feel about it. Do they want to wait for the start of a school year or do we want to move mid-year – those type of questions. But right now, we don’t have the answers so we can’t even have that kind of conversation,” Crawford explains.
