Contract Awarded For Wheatley Water Tower Rehabilitation

The upcoming rehabilitation of Wheatley’s water tower has taken another step forward.

The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission has approved a $4.3 million contract to provide lifecycle improvements to the elevated water storage tank in Wheatley. The contract has been awarded to Burlington-based contractor Landmark Municipal Services.

The total cost of the project, with an HST rebate included, is $3,961,211.52, which will be funded through the Water Facilities Lifecycle Reserve.

The existing tank was originally constructed in 1966 and, over time, has been exposed to extreme weather conditions, leading to deterioration of the inner and outer coatings.

In order to extend the lifespan of the 10 elevated water storage tanks in Chatham-Kent, the municipality has conducted multiple rehabilitation projects over the last several years. So far, six of CK’s water tanks have been rehabilitated.

The tank construction phase for the Wheatley water tank is scheduled for 2026. Each tank takes around two years to rehabilitate.
