Plans are moving forward for a new Catholic school on the south side of Chatham.
During a special board meeting Friday afternoon, trustees with the St Clair Catholic District School Board approved a contract for London-based Norlon Builders as the contractor a new $23.6 million elementary school to be built on Tweedsmuir Avenue West.
As with St Angela Merici school on Chatham’s north side, the new south-side school will house students from a number of smaller elementary schools in the area, including Georges P Vanier and St Ursula.
The site plan, which was presented to Chatham-Kent Council last month, includes room for 564 students and a child care centre.
