With little relief expected from the high temperatures this week, several cooling stations have been opened in Chatham-Kent to help people escape the heat.
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the region with daytime temperatures expected to linger above 30C through Wednesday.
In response, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and its community partners are coordinating to open cooling stations for those in need at the following locations:
*Chatham Hope Haven at 183 Wellington St. W. in Chatham will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
*ROCK at 233 Nelson St. in Wallaceburg from Monday to Friday between 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
*ROCK at 39 Richmond St. in Chatham will be open during the afternoon on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
*Municipal offices in Blenheim, Chatham, Ridgetown, Tilbury, and Wallaceburg during regular business hours.
*The Employment and Social Services office located on the 1st floor of the Health and Human Services Building at 435 Grand Ave. W. in Chatham from Monday to Friday during regular hours. 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
*All branches of the Chatham-Kent Public Library during business hours.
During extreme hot weather conditions, local residents are encouraged to call or visit friends and neighbours who may be at risk. Those at the highest risk for heat-related illness include adults over the age of 65, young children, outdoor workers, and those experiencing homelessness.
