Corn Disease Spreading

As some southwestern Ontario farmers deal with a corn infestation, the Grain Farmers of Ontario are urging affected farmers to reach out if they are dealing with crop loss.

Chair Markus Haerle says a vomitoxin called DON can make animals sick if the infected corn is processed into feed.

“Reach out to your Agro Corp inspectors and call in to the office and make sure you put in a claim and tell them what the situation is,” says Haerle. “From there on if there is anymore you can fall back on Agro Corp and work with them.”

Haerle says in some extreme cases, entire corn crops will have to be destroyed.
