A friendly beanbag tossing competition has raised over $50,000 to support end-of-life care in Chatham-Kent.
Organized by the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, the second annual Cornhole for Hospice fundraiser was held on Saturday, February 8 at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre.
The event saw 37 teams compete in a round-robin competition before squaring off in double-elimination matchups.
“We are so grateful for all of the teams who came out to support this event, as well as all of the donors and sponsors who made Cornhole for Hospice such a success,” said Ginny Hawken, the special events chair for the foundation, in a news release.
Mike and Susan Cartier were the big winners, taking home a trophy and a $500 cash prize for the Best of the Best bracket. Gord and Tracy Adams also won a $250 cash prize in the Best of the Rest bracket.
As well, Teddy Rosser took home the $507.50 jackpot from the event’s 50/50 raffle.
“The true winners from this event are the people across Chatham-Kent that will have access to end-of-life care at no cost to themselves or their families,” said Hawken.
This year’s Cornhole for Hospice raised a grand total of $51,500. All proceeds will support the 10-bed Chatham-Kent Hospice, which relies on donations to cover over 60 per cent of the organization’s annual operating budget.
