Local residents will be tossing beanbags this spring in support of the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

The Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation will be holding the Cornhole for Hospice tournament at the Everest Convention Centre in Chatham on March 2, with proceeds going toward ensuring the hospice continues to offer quality end-of-life care.

The CK Dirty Birds Cornhole League will operate the event with more than 30 teams from across Chatham-Kent competing in the tournament.

Open to players of all abilities, teams will first compete in a random round-robin with a guarantee of at least three games before being split into two brackets based on ability. Following the round-robin, teams will face off in a single elimination tournament where the winning team of each bracket will receive a cash prize.

“Cornhole for Hospice brings a favourite summer past-time indoors for a day of fun and fundraising,” says Ginny Hawken, Chair, Special Events Committee. “This event, as well as our Signature events, all play an integral role in raising essential funds that ensure Hospice continues to offer quality end-of-life care and support to families in our community.”

To register, teams of two must collect a minimum of $300 in pledges or donations. For every $100 collected, players will receive a ballot for a chance to win customized cornhole boards. The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle.
