Costly Bike Ride Lands Chatham Man With Several Charges

Around 4:00 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed a man riding a bicycle on Grand Avenue East in Chatham with no bell or horn on his bike. The officer stopped the man for this offence and through investigation learned that he was currently bound by a curfew.
The man was arrested and upon being searched was found to be in possession of a cheque and bank card belonging to someone else along with a bank receipt confirming the cheque was recently deposited using the bank card.  He was also in possession of a stolen driver’s license, debit card, crow bar and bolt cutters.
The 36-year-old Chatham man has been charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, use forged document, fraud under $5000, being in possession of break in tools and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.  He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
