Council has agreed to find a solution to make the CASO trail safer.
At Monday’s meeting, council voted unanimously in favour of Councillor John Wright’s motion to address and prevent damage and improper use of the CASO trail.
“Lately, they’ve cut all the locks off on the gates so they can get onto it, then they cut the gates off and took them,” said Wright.
“Now they are on there with cars and trucks running up and now. Recently, they rolled a car on the walking trail. It’s gotten out of hand.”
The 11 kilometre trail runs along the former Canadian Southern Rail Line corridor, south of the 401.
Councillor Morena McDonald says she and Wright met with local residents this past Sunday, with many expressing concern about speaking up in public for fear of harassment.
“We are just looking for more eyes on the situation in hopes that we can mitigate and prevent some of this behaviour,” said McDonald.
Administration will return with a report on trail safety in the new year after consulting Entegrus and the Chatham-Kent Police Service.
