Council Stepping Up To Help Well Owners

The Municipality is calling on the Ontario government to halt the construction of wind turbines in Chatham-Kent until water well issues are addressed.

Ward 4 Councillor Leon LeClair

Councillors Jeff Wesley, Leon Leclair, and Joe Faas put together a motion to hire a third party well tester and inspector to investigate the five recent wells that have had issues around the North Kent Wind One construction area.

Leclair says these costs will be covered by the Municipality.

“We need to find a third party and make sure the well owners will support whoever we’re going to get to test them,” the Ward Four representative explains. “”There’s no trust right now, so we’re re-mending fences, and let’s go forward.”

Mayor Randy Hope and several Councillors will also be meeting with Ministry of the Environment staff this Thursday and ask them to take this issue seriously.
