Council To Look Into Forming Agriculture Committee

Ever since Chatham-Kent’s amalgamation in 1998, agriculture and rural economy issues have been a big part of municipal council’s list of priorities.

South Kent Councillor Trevor Thompson is looking at creating a new committee of council that would be advisory in nature and would explore, make recommendations, provide guidance and offer strategies and options in supporting and enhancing Chatham-Kent’s rural economy.

Thompson said 16,000 jobs in Chatham rely on the local rural economy.

Thompson will bring a motion to create the new committee at a council meeting being held later this month, with hopes that the rural economy advisory council will be in place for the next term of council.
