An apartment complex planned for Chatham’s north end could take the next step forward next week.
Council will vote Monday on a proposal to rezone land in Chatham’s north end to allow for high-density residential development.
York Developments approached council over the summer with plans for two 14-storey and two 12-storey apartment buildings at 770 St. Clair Street, between Staples and Galaxy Cinemas.
The rezoning would change the property from commercial to mixed residential use, allowing for up to 774 apartment units across the four towers.
If council approves the zoning change, York Developments would still need to submit a site plan control application, complete required sanitary sewer upgrades, and obtain building permits before construction could begin.
