With summer just around the corner, one municipal councillor wants to make sure plans are on track for a kayak launch in Erieau.

Ward 2 representative Anthony Ceccacci put forth a notice of motion at council’s April 13th meeting for administration to update council on the accessible kayak launches at the end of Third Street and Stass Lane in Erieau.

The Let’s Talk CK survey went up in February asking residents for input on the accessible kayak launches in the council approved locations in Erieau.

According to the Let’s Talk CK post, the installation of the launches “would include a floating dock with accessible kayak launch, concrete dock base, paved or concrete pathways, associated signage, and a small area of passive recreation space.”

Ceccacci wants an update on the project and a report from municipal staff that includes safety concerns, environmental impact, accessibility, parking, long term maintenance, and overall cost effectiveness.

“Given the financial and community implications of the initiative, a thorough evaluation at this stage would ensure that the public funds are being allocated responsibly and the outcome serves the best interest of the residents and the community,” said Ceccacci.

Following the survey closing on March 9, the next steps for the project were listed as having a consultant develop a final detailed design and issue it for tender in accordance with municipal standards and community input.
