Counterfeit Money Found in CK

Chatham-Kent Police are cautioning area businesses to be vigilant with some counterfeit money making the rounds.

Yesterday, police got a call from a Chatham business, saying that a man had used two phoney American $20 bills this week.

Authorities say businesses are under no obligation to accept money they believe might be fake, and anyone caught carrying or using counterfeit money can face criminal charges.

Both U.S. and Canadian money have security features.  The Bank of Canada provides information on how to tell whether Canadian or American bills are counterfeit https://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknotes/counterfeit-prevention/

The U.S. Currency Education Program also provides information regarding their seven denominations and security features https://www.uscurrency.gov/denominations
