Although no more lives have been lost to COVID-19 in the past two weeks, statistics from CK Public Health show the virus continues to spread.
For the week from March 12th to the 18th, there were 71 high risk cases confirmed in the municipality, averaging 10 new cases a day. That’s up from 45 cases identified the week previous.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 11,429 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Chatham-Kent and 102 deaths caused by the virus. However, officials continue to stress the case numbers are an underestimate due to restrictions on PCR testing.
No new outbreaks have been reported in the last week, although public health staff are keeping tabs on a group home outbreak as well as an outbreak at Meadow Park Nursing Home in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent’s positivity rate has risen to 21.8% compared to 15.9% last week. The provincial rate is holding steady at 10.5%.
