The CKHA’s COVID-19 assessment centre is moving to St Clair College.
Hospital officials say the move will allow the centre to meet the increased demand for testing and provide more on-site parking.
In the last few weeks, the number of test being done at the assessment centre have doubled from about 100 a day to more than 200.
“The goal of moving the assessment centre is to give us some more space,” says CKHA CEO Lori Marshall. “We know weather is getting a little bit more chilly and inclement, and we want to make sure people who are waiting for an actual swab can do so in greater comfort than we currently are able to offer.”
Marshall say the new facility also allow for the potential to expand both in terms of hours and space in the event demand increases further.
On Monday, walk-in testing and pre-booked appointments will be carried out at a mobile clinic run by CK EMS and the Health Alliance in the Healthplex parking lot while the main clinic is moved.
During the week of October 5-11, the Assessment Centre will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the last appointment seen at 4:20 p.m.
The CKHA already had an agreement in place with St Clair College to house a field hospital for the duration of the pandemic.
