It seems some businesses in Chatham-Kent are weathering the storm of COVID-19 better than others.
Mayor Darrin Canniff says the pandemic has been hard, especially those in the hospitality industry, but that’s not the case across the board.
“Over the last three months, I’ve been to a number of businesses that have opened up,” Canniff says. “In the Blenheim area we did a tour, there were five businesses that had opened up all during the COVID period, I see more opening up as well.”
The mayor says it bodes well for community’s overall economic prosperity in the future.
“People want to come here, they see all the benefits of our community, the safety of it, the climate, the people.”
Canniff says the municipality is experiencing record numbers of requests for building permits right now, and he expects that trend to continue, bring more jobs and more people to Chatham-Kent.
