COVID Hospitalizations Dip Slightly

After exceeding its bed capacity yesterday, there’s a little more wiggle room at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance today.

Hospital officials say there are 30 COVID patients in care, seven of whom are in intensive care, five on a ventilator. Yesterday alone, two ICU patients were transferred to other health care facilities to free up space.

22 of the 30 COVID patients are unvaccinated.

The hospital’s ICU occupancy now sits at 80%, meaning 8 of the 10 beds and associated resources are in use.

Medical, surgical, and critical care beds are 94.8% filled, while the progressive care unit’s capacity sits at 91.7%.

61 hospital staff are currently off work after either testing positive for or being exposed to COVID-19.

Chatham-Kent Public Health reported an additional 57 COVID-19 cases today, bringing the total number of cases to 4,141 locally since the beginning of the pandemic.

The health unit also reported two new outbreaks today — one at St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Lodge in Chatham and another at Wallaceburg Retirement Residence. There are three other ongoing outbreaks in the community, including one at Tilbury Manor Nursing Home and Naahii Ridge Public School in Ridgetown. The other outbreak is linked to 18 cases at an unidentified manufacturing plant.
