COVID Restrictions Start to Ease

A local MPP calls the gradual easing of COVID restrictions good news for everyone.

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton says with things starting to open up again, it’s a breath of fresh air for residents and businesses alike.

“It’s really important for our small businesses to begin reopening,” McNaughton says. “We are taking a cautious approach, we want to defeat COVID-19 once and for all. But this is good news for small shopkeepers and restaurants across our riding and across the province.”

Starting today, Restaurants and bars will be able to operate with 50 per cent capacity indoors; retailers, including grocery stores, pharmacies, and shopping malls can operate with 50 per cent capacity indoors; and social gatherings will be increased to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.

Spectator areas at sporting events, concert venues, and theatres are allowed to operate at 50 per cent seated capacity or 500 people, whichever is less.

Enhanced proof of vaccination, and other requirements will continue to apply in existing settings.

It’s expected the province will move back into the next phase of the reopening plan on February 21st.
