Alysson Storey continues her push to see a concrete barrier separating the 401 through Chatham-Kent.
The Chatham-Kent woman has been leading the charge to make the highway safer.
Storey says concrete is the safest way to go, but nailing the government down on their plans has been difficult.
“At our meeting with them at Queen’s Park, the Minister (Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca) had indicated to us they had not made a decision yet, the next day the MTO released a statement that they had made a decision, and a few days after that they backtracked,” Storey says. “Right now it seems like they are still reviewing options, which is actually good news.”
She says a crash near Dillon Road earlier this week is just another example of what drivers face every day.
“It shows the type of situations we often find ourselves in on our stretch of the 401, and just reinforces to me that we really need the concrete median barriers,” Storey says. “This was not a crossover, but it does show that those trucks are heavy, and we need the proper protection on our 401 for both the drivers of the trucks and the drivers around them.”
