Crash Leads Police To Alleged Vehicle Thief

An alleged vehicle thief has been arrested after she was involved in a collision near the Chatham Courthouse.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service a woman attempted to steal a vehicle from a Gosnell Line home in Howard Township on October 27. However, the theft was foiled when the car stalled on the thief and the owners intervened.

The woman fled the scene before officers arrived and a warrant was issued for her arrest when she couldn’t be located.

Then on Wednesday at around 3:15 p.m., the same woman was involved in a collision near the intersection of Grand Avenue West and Courthouse Lane in Chatham.

As a result, an 18-year-old Erieau woman was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle and trespassing by night. She was also given a ticket for careless driving. The accused was taken to police headquarters and released with conditions and a January court date.
