Over $35,000 has been raised to help fight crime in Chatham-Kent.

The third annual Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers charity golf tournament was held June 20 at Maple City Country Club. Organizers say the event brought together members of the community for a day of golf, networking, and fundraising.

Proceeds go directly into supporting the anonymous tips program, education initiatives, and community outreach activities such as the Children’s Safety Expo.

“This year we have a focus on three important education topics based on local and national trends. The three topics are Guns, Gangs, and Violence Awareness; Auto Theft Prevention; and Break and Enter Prevention,” said Erica McIntosh, Coordinator for Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers in a news release. “Of course, we remain active in supporting all activities to reduce crime and work with groups across the municipality to provide timely support.”

As a charitable organization, Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers relies entirely on community support to operate. The program receives no direct funding from government agencies and depends on donations, sponsorships, fundraising events, and community partnerships to continue its work.
