A local man is facing charges after allegedly vandalizing two pumps at a Chatham gas station.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a man went to the gas station on Richmond Street on September 4 shortly before 5 p.m. and applied an unspecified substance to the keypad on a gas pump. He then left, returned a short time later in a different vehicle, and repeated the same actions at a different pump.
The pump stations were later deemed to be unusable and required repair.
Authorities identified a suspect using video surveillance footage and the accused was contacted.
The 63-year-old Chatham man attended police headquarters on Tuesday and turned himself in. He is now charged with two counts of mischief over $5,000 and will answer to a judge in court later this month.
