Dangerous Driving Charges Laid After Stolen Vehicle Crashes In Chatham

A single-vehicle crash involving a stolen vehicle in Chatham has resulted in charges for a London man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Clachan Road north of Bothwell at around 2:32 a.m. on Monday. Less than 30 minutes later, emergency crews were called to a collision involving the same vehicle on Poplar Street in Chatham.

The driver fled the scene before officers arrived and it was determined that the vehicle had been stolen from London.

Residents at a home on Cornhill Street called police a short time later to report that someone had been knocking on their window.

Officers arrived and following a foot chase and the use of police K9 Helix, a suspect was found and arrested.

A 25-year-old man from London is now charged with flight from police, mischief, possession of stolen property, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving without a license. He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
