Dark and Stormy Night for Shoreline Residents

Several dozen residents along Erie Shore Drive remain under a voluntary evacuation order as strong winds and waves continue to batter the Lake Erie shoreline.

Officials with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority have been monitoring the area throughout the night as storms rolled through.

Jason Homewood, Water Resources and Regulations Technician, was monitoring the shoreline overnight and says he counted 42 properties on Erie shore Drive impacted by water in their front yards and at least one that had water in the house.

Public works crews were hard at work yesterday, making repairs to a section of road that has been heavily damaged by flooding this week.

“They’ve finished some of the major repairs and are going to continue to work as long as they can,” says Public Works Director Ryan Brown. “The road remains closed at this  time, we’re still cautious about the stability of the road due to the earlier flooding.”

Emergency management crews will meet again this morning to assess any further damage and figure out what comes next.
