Deferred Property Taxes Due FRIDAY

The next installment of Chatham-Kent’s deferred property taxes is due this Friday, July 10th.
During its April 6 session, Chatham-Kent Council unanimously voted to delay the due date for this installment of municipal property taxes from May 1 to July 10. Council also waived late payment charges on current year tax arrears from April 1 to July 10, 2020.
Payment options include pre-authorized payment, telephone or internet banking, payment at a bank, payment through your mortgage company, mail or through the drop box at any Municipal Centre including the Civic Centre. The Civic Centre will also re-open Friday morning at 8:30.
Inquiries on tax accounts or payment processes can be directed to 519-360-1998 or ckar@chatham-kent.ca . The due dates for the final billing are September 11, 2020 and November 2, 2020.
The due date for payment of Business Licenses, Dog Tag fees, Loan Agreements, CIP Agreements, and Accounts Receivables has been moved to June 30, 2020. Late payment charges will also be waived until that date.
The changes do not include Provincial Offences Act charges, Legal charges or Building Permit fees.
The Chatham-Kent PUC has not charged interest for any of its customers on 2020 arrears and will continue not charging interest for residential customers until June 17, 2020.
Non-residential customers are charged interest for any overdue amount starting April 1. The PUC will not be disconnecting residential and small general service customers relative to non-payment until after July 31, 2020.
As of May 1, $74.9 million of $93.0 million that would have been due under the former due date had been paid.  This represents 80.5% of taxes that would have been due.
During the same period last year after taxes were due on May 1, 92.8% of taxes had been paid at that same point in the year.
In terms of pre-authorized payments, the municipality offers a monthly or installment date option. Between March and May, the monthly pre-authorized payment option showed a decline of 0.3% while the installment date pre-authorized payment option showed a reduction of 3.9%.
