Delays Expected As Canada Post Resumes Opperations

With Canada Post employees now back to work following a month-long strike, the Crown corporation is warning Canadians that delivery delays will likely last into the new year.

Canada Post said it will begin ramping up and stabilizing operations across the country on Tuesday, but that the process will take time.

The backlog of domestic parcels and letters will be delivered on a first-in, first-out basis, and new commercial volumes will not be accepted into the network until Thursday. As well, service guarantees have been suspended for the time being.

Canada Post added that international mail and parcels have also accumulated significantly and new international mail will not be accepted until December 23.

The company said Canadians should expect delivery delays through the remainder of 2024 and into 2025.

More than 55,000 unionized Canada Post initially went on strike on November 15. However, members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers were forced back to work this week under the direction of federal Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon and it determined that a new collective agreement was not likely to be reached before the end of the year.
