With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the need for blood donations is as important as ever.
Marisa Gatfield is Canadian Blood Service’s territory manager for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, and says even with social distancing, it’s still safe to donate.
“Our donor centre or mobile donor centres are places of wellness within Canada’s health system,” Gatfield says. “We have robust cleaning and infection control practices in place to protect all donors, staff, and volunteers.”
Gatfield says all potential donors are carefully screened to ensure they are healthy.
“As we would for flu symptoms or other illnesses, we ask donors to stay home if they are not feeling well, since only healthy people are eligible to donate blood.”
A blood donor clinic is being held in Chatham on Saturday at the Portuguese Club on Grand Avenue East.
The next clinic in Wallaceburg has been postponed from April 7th to June 2nd.
