As work continues to cap the final well near the site of the Wheatley explosion, a public meeting has been scheduled to provide an update to local residents.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said the in-person town hall meeting will be held at the Wheatley Arena on September 15 at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting will provide a forum for residents to ask questions, while also updating residents on the current situation as remediation in Wheatley continues.
Those who wish to attend can sign up by clicking here. The meeting will also be live streamed on the municipality’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
In the meantime, construction crews have completed the installation of a new casing at the well closest to last summer’s explosion at 15 Erie St. The casing has been cemented inside a conductor pipe, which was previously inserted over the well.
Further geotechnical testing will take place this week to analyze the performance of the cement bond and determine any necessary next steps before plugging the well.
