A special film screening in Chatham this evening is aiming to raise awareness about the opioid crisis.
R.O.C.K. (Reach Out Chatham-Kent) Missions is teaming up with the Chatham-Kent Drug Awareness Council to show the documentary “Love in the Time of Fentanyl” at the Cultural Centre in Chatham. Organizers say they hope the film will further the conversation about how the opioid crisis affects all communities and poses a real and present danger across Canada.
“We can’t ignore the opioid poisoning epidemic happening across Chatham-Kent,” said R.O.C.K. Missions’ Operations Coordinator, Renee Geniole in a recent interview with CKXS News. “Hundreds of opioid poisonings go unreported due to systemic barriers that continue to marginalize people who use substances. Lack of access to services, stigma, medical violence, and criminalization are a few examples of the barriers faced by individuals we work with.”
Tonight’s screening also serves as a launch of ROCK Missions’ expanded Peer-2-Peer program, which provides low-barrier access to information, harm reduction supplies, community-driven outreach and support to those experiencing homelessness and people who use substances.
