Animal control officers will be fanning out across the municipality next week, checking to make sure dogs across Chatham-Kent have their tags.
Under the Responsible Animal Ownership bylaw, all dog owners must renew their municipal dog license each year, being caught without a tag could result in a $240 fine.
The by-law enforcement officers will be wearing animal control uniforms and identification name tags, and also driving a vehicle marked with animal control.
Tags can be picked up through Pet and Wildlife Rescue at the CK Animal Shelter, or any municipal service centre. The cost is $38 per dog or $28 if they’re fixed, along with a $10 late fee.
