Donation To Support Expansion Of Community Breakfast Program

A recent donation is helping to ensure those without stable housing can still get a warm meal.

District 33 Chatham-Kent of RTOERO (Retired Teachers of Ontario/Les enseignantes et enseignants retraités de l’Ontario) has donated $4,000 to Carlo’s Place in Chatham to provide additional meals to those in need on Sundays. Carlo’s Place aims to expand from once a month to twice-monthly Sunday breakfasts. The funding will also be used to train and engage additional volunteers.

The breakfast program, offered at the Spirit and Life Centre at on Wellington Street, is one of 26 community projects in Ontario and British Columbia to share in $104,000 in RTOERO grant money.

Carlo’s Place currently provides 140-150 meals each month to the unhoused. Beyond nutritious hot meals, the program distributes socks, outerwear and hygiene products to those in need.
