Dorothy Wallace has been named the 2025 Chatham-Kent Senior of the Year.

The award, handed out at yesterday’s Aging Well Conference, recognized 16 adults over the age of 60 honoured this year for achieving significant goals and making outstanding contributions as volunteers within Chatham-Kent.

Wallace has dedicated her life to preserving and promoting the rich Black history of the region. She is the current President of the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society (CKBHS) & Black Mecca Museum. Under her guidance, the museum has curated countless artifacts, interactive displays, and archives that chronicle the rich tapestry of Black history in Chatham-Kent and the surrounding area.

Wallace has also been a vocal advocate for addressing systemic issues affecting the Black community. She has expressed strong support for initiatives recognizing racism as a public health issue in Chatham-Kent, emphasizing the importance of starting meaningful conversations and actions to benefit future generations.

Wallace is one of over 1000 local residents who have been honoured since the Senior Awards began in Blenheim 37 years ago.
