Dover Township Crash Leads To Impaired Driving Charges

Trying to blame a puppy for causing a collision in Dover Township hasn’t panned out for a Sarnia woman.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a section of Bear Line Road at around 12:36 p.m. on Saturday, after receiving reports of an SUV that was seen swerving and nearly colliding with other vehicles before crashing into a ditch.

Police arrived and spoke to the driver who said her puppy had distracted her. However, officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol and that the woman was showing signs of impairment. A bottle containing alcohol was also found in the vehicle.

When officers asked the driver to exit the vehicle, she became uncooperative and was arrested.

A 46-year-old Sarnia woman is now charged with impaired driving, and driving with a blood alcohol content over the legal limit. She was also issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and her vehicle will be impounded for seven days.

She has since been released from custody with a future court date.
