
As the number of new reported measles cases continues to grow in Chatham-Kent, public health officials are reporting four new potential exposure points in the municipality.
Chatham-Kent Public Health said anyone who attended the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance emergency department in Chatham on April 29 between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. may have been exposed to the virus.
Residents may have also been exposed if they attended the Chatham Walmart on May 2 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. or on May 4 between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Another potential exposure point was reported in Dresden at the Union Block Bakery at 413 St. George St. on May 3. Those who were at this location between 6 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. were also potentially exposed.
Anyone who was present during these timeframes and is not up-to-date with their vaccinations is urged to call CK Public Health at 519-352-7270 ext. 5902.
According to the latest report published by Public Health Ontario, 131 cases of the measles virus have been reported in Chatham-Kent since January 1, which accounts for 10.5 per cent of all measles cases reported across the province this year.
Provincial health officials said 47 of those locally reported measles cases were detected by CK Public Health between April 2 and April 9. Another 41 cases were reported between April 9 and April 29.
