Chatham-Kent’s Chief Medical Officer is getting fed up with people claiming the pandemic is all just a big conspiracy.
“I have no idea how to deal with people who deny there’s a pandemic,” Dr. Colby says. “It’s sort of, to me, like people that deny that there are trees and rocks.”
However, when it comes to pandemic fatigue, Colby says that is a real concern.
“People are tired of this, and none more than those on the front lines that are dealing with it in public health.”
The municipality’s top doctor says Chatham-Kent tends to buck the provincial trend when it comes to active cases.
“At a time when the number of new cases in the province were less than 100, that’s when we were dealing with our huge surge,” Colby says. “We will always be vigilant to deal with whatever comes our way, both in a reactive but especially a proactive way.”
While he understands many area residents are getting tired of restrictions as the pandemic drags on, Dr. Colby hopes everyone will continue with physical distancing measures and hand hygiene to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
