An annual campaign has broken its fundraising record to help ensure dozens of students in need have a bicycle to call their own.
Staff with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board have raised more than $10,000 for the sixth annual Dress Down for Wheels campaign, which was held from May 4-8.
The Dress Down for Wheels initiative invited staff across the school board to “dress down” in exchange for a donation.
“This initiative is a beautiful example of what can happen when people come together in support of children,” said Director of Education Lisa Demers in a news release. “For many students, receiving a bicycle means independence, confidence, and the opportunity to simply enjoy being a kid. We are incredibly grateful to every staff member who contributed to making this year’s campaign such a tremendous success.”
The funds raised were used to purchase and deliver 51 bicycles, helmets, and locks to students throughout the board, including a specially adapted tricycle.
