Two local residents are facing charges following a break-and-enter at a hydro compound in Howard Township.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a Hydro One security employee contacted officers on Tuesday shortly after 2 a.m. after two men broke into the secured compound. A street address of the compound has not been provided by police.
Officers quickly responded to the scene and established a containment around the property before deploying a drone to locate the suspects. One of the suspects was found inside the compound and was arrested without incident.
A second suspect was seen running into a nearby tree line, and the Canine Unit was called to help. The suspect was ultimately arrested after he was found hiding within the wooded area.
Police also located a concealed pickup truck nearby that is believed to be associated with the incident.
As a result, a 38-year-old man and a 34-year-old man, both from Chatham-Kent, have been charged with break-and-enter to commit mischief over $5,000, theft under $5,000, and possession of stolen property under $5,000. Both were held in custody for a bail hearing.
