A Chatham man will have to answer to a judge in court after allegedly crashing an e-bike while impaired.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to the collision in a parking lot on St. Clair Street between McFarlane Avenue and McNaughton in Chatham, at around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday.
Authorities arrived to find an e-bike lying on its side and the driver sitting on the ground with visible injuries. While the man was speaking to paramedics, officers noticed signs of impairment and alleged that he had been drinking at a nearby establishment.
The man was arrested, but was ultimately taken to the hospital for medical treatment after experiencing discomfort as a result of the collision.
Following a breath test at the hospital, the 45-year-old Chatham man was charged with driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date.
