Three people have died following an early morning fire in Wallaceburg.

Crews were called to a home on Elgin Street just after 2am to battle the flames and firefighters pulled two people from the burning building.

Fire Chief Chris Case says a man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a woman was taken to hospital by paramedics, but later died.

The body of another person, who was previously unaccounted for, was located Thursday afternoon in the home’s basement.

Police and paramedics remain on the scene and officials from the Fire Marshal’s Office have been called in as well.

No word yet on what caused the fire or the extent of damage done.
