Elgin County Hires CK’s Former CAO

CAO Don Shropshire alongside Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickman, speaking in Wheatley on November 17, 2021.

Chatham-Kent’s former chief administrative officer is back at work but in a different community.

Don Shropshire was appointed Interim Chief Administrative Officer/Clerk for Elgin County last month. He replaces Julie Gonyou, who announced her resignation in May.

Elgin County Council will be initiating a recruitment process to secure a permanent replacement for the position.

Shropshire previously served as the CAO for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent for 10 years and was the national director of Disaster Management at the Red Cross for 15 years.

He retired as CK’s CAO in April 2022 with the top job eventually going to current CAO Michael Duben.
