Elgin Street Construction Update

Chatham-Kent’s mayor-elect is once again taking to social media to update residents on some on-going road work.

Wallaceburg residents have expressed frustration at the time it’s taking to complete a project on Elgin Street.

In a video posted on Twitter and Facebook Thursday, Darrin Canniff was joined by Christ Thibert, Director of Engineering and Transportation, to give an update on the project which officials say has been delayed by weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

“Still to be completed in 2018 will be some additional asphalt work, as well as some grading in the boulevards and some driveway restorations,” Thibert explains.

Surface asphalt will be laid before the end of the year, however sidewalk restoration and final paving won’t be complete until the spring of 2019.

Thibert says sewer covers that are currently raised a few inches above the roadway will either be ramped or lowered to accommodate snow removal over the winter.
