Damage is pegged at around $1.5 million following a fire at the former Bedell’s Frozen Foods building in Dover Centre.

The Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Service said fire crews were called to the blaze at 8323 Dover Centre Line on Wednesday just after 8 a.m. Heavy smoke was showing from the front half of the building when firefighters arrived.

Crews worked defensively to extinguish the fire and an excavator was used to knock down the back half of the building, which was attached to a larger warehouse.

No injuries have been reported.

Fire officials said the cause of the blaze remains undetermined.
