A WWII relic caused some tense moments at a Chatham business.
Emergency crews responded to Value Village on Keil Drive South late Thursday morning following a report of a possible explosive device brought in as part of a donation.
Chatham-Kent Police identified the item as a historical WWII grenade and, as a precaution, the area was cordoned off and the store evacuated.
Canadian Armed Forces officials retrieved the device for disposal, according to military protocols.
Authorities say there was no risk to public safety and residents are reminded to use extreme caution when donating or discarding old memorabilia or items that may appear to be weapons, ammunition, or explosive devices.
Value Village was closed for the remainder of the day.
