In a bid to assist potential developers invest in the south side of downtown Wallaceburg, Chatham-Kent council, during their online meeting being held tonight, will look to approve buying a vacant narrow piece of property on McDougall Street near the downtown walking bridge.
The land, which is currently zoned as commercial, is available for purchase for $40,000.
If council approves the purchase it could be another piece in the puzzle for a potential developer.
Chatham-Kent already owns a good chunk of vacant land in the area on the south-side of the Sydenham River, and if a potential investor in found, the municipality could recover its purchase costs by selling the land to a developer as part of larger parcel, which would be ripe for residential and commercial development.
