The Wallaceburg honour guard is in danger of folding permanently if new members can’t be found.
Len Drouillard, past president of the honour guard says the average age is in the mid-70s.
“We just can’t do it anymore,” Drouillard says. “There’s only a couple of us that can actually walk the parades anymore, the rest of them have to get a bus to get there, like we had to do on Remembrance Day.”
Drouillard says you don’t have to be a veteran to take part, and the commitment is low with just a handful of events a year, including the Port Lambton Gala Days parade, Remembrance Day, and Santa Claus parades, as well as ceremonial events like Decoration Day in June.
