English Catholic Teachers Preparing to Strike Next Week

It’s been a week free of teachers’ strikes in Chatham-Kent, but more job action is being planned for next week.

OECTA, representing the province’s 45-thousand English Catholic teachers, will be walking off the job on Thursday, March 5th as their contract dispute with the province drags on.

Union president Liz Stuart says the government seem to be committed to taking resources out of the classroom and misleading the public.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce maintains benefits and a 2% raise are the major sticking points in negotiations.

Ontario’s public high school teachers are holding a one-day rotating strike in some areas today, however the Lambton Kent District School Board isn’t affected.

The union representing French-language teachers is set to resume negotiations with the province today.
