Starting next summer, Chatham-Kent’s nine splash pads will expand the amount of time they are open.
Currently, the amount of weeks a splash pad is open ranges from 13 to 16 weeks depending on location.
All of the splash pads will be open for 16 weeks in 2024. They will open prior to the long weekend in May are remain open until after the Labour Day weekend.
Making all splash pads open for 16 weeks is seen as more consistent and equitable.
It will cost an extra $22,323 annually for the splash pads to be open for additional weeks. The extra costs will be referred to the 2024-2027 budget.
